Wanting to help is normal

Not Knowing How is Too

Most Americans want to give back. Only about a third feel like they actually are.

That gap leaves communities struggling—and leaves a lot of people frustrated, disconnected, and wondering where they fit. An Army of Normal Folks exists to close that gap.

Led by our movement and podcast—hosted by Oscar-winner Bill Courtney—ANF is launching local Service Clubs across the country to make contribution easier, more human, and more rewarding.

So What's a Service Club?

A Service Club is a modern civic club for everyday people.

It's a local, in-person community that helps normal folks turn good intentions into real action—without guilt, politics, or impossible commitments. Service Clubs lower the barriers to contribution and replace going-it-alone with serving together.

What ANF Service Clubs Do

Service clubs offer three simple ways to turn good intentions into real impact.

Giving Circles

We pool our dollars so we can make bigger, more meaningful gifts together than any of us could make alone. Everyone gives what they can. Everyone gets a voice. Real change happens.

Army Activations

Once a month, we roll up our sleeves and serve—together. These are easy, show-up-and-help service days, like building beds for kids who don't have one with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. No planning required. Just show up.

Service Concierge

There are a lot of nonprofits out there—and no one has time to research them all. Our Service Concierge helps cut through the noise by matching you with 2–3 service opportunities that fit your passions, skills, and season of life.

Don't have a service club in your town?

It only takes one person to get something going. We'll give you the playbooks and support to start a Service Club in your community. If that might be you, email Army@NormalFolks.us.

The Movement

The Founding ANF Service Clubs

These first six Service Clubs are led by normal folks already showing up for their communities. Different paths. Same heart. Each one proving that doing what you can really does add up.

ATLANTA, GA | MICHAEL LIGNOS, PRESIDENT

Running Toward Dignity and Second Chances

Michael runs with Back On My Feet, where running clubs for people experiencing homelessness have helped more than 10,000 people find jobs and housing. For him, service means moving together—literally—and rebuilding lives with dignity.

ATLANTA, GA | JOHN NORMAN, PRESIDENT

Saving Lives, One Donation at a Time

John donates platelets every other week—and has done so more than 180 times. He's proof that consistent, quiet service can be heroic, even when no one's watching.

As the former Executive Director of the YMCA North Branch, Trey has spent years building spaces where people belong. Now he's bringing that same spirit to an ANF Service Club.

Questions

Everything you need to know about joining and getting started

What does membership involve?

You decide how much to give. Some folks show up monthly. Others weekly. There's no minimum. We meet, we serve, we build something real together in your community.

Do I need experience?

No. Normal folks are exactly who we're looking for. You bring yourself. We'll handle the rest. Your chapter leader will show you the way.

How do I find my chapter?

Head to our chapters page and search your city. If there's no chapter yet, you can start one. We provide everything you need to lead.

Can I volunteer without joining?

Yes. Volunteer with us and see if it fits. Many folks join after their first service day. No pressure either way.

What's the cost?

Nothing. Army of Normal Folks is free. We believe service shouldn't have a price tag.
